General Statement: The APCA is a private, not-for-profit (501[c](3) association of community health centers and other organizations / individuals representing the primary health care interests of Alaska's medically underserved rural and urban populations. The APCA's purpose is to maintain, expand and optimize access to primary care in the great state of Alaska.

Position Summary: The Communications and Events Specialist (CES) of the APCA performs under the direction of the Member Services and Special Projects Coordinator. The CES is responsible for developing and providing communications to members (via website, newsletter, weekly updates, press releases etc.), APCA's marketing and public awareness programs, coordinating member –related events and assisting with the production and dissemination of APCA materials. The CES maintains a positive working relationship with APCA staff, members, board, and partners, and provides excellent customer service to all constituents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the Supervisor and/or the Executive Director.
• Works with the APCA Management and Member Services Team in developing the communications, marketing and public awareness component of the annual work plan.
• Ensures distribution of marketing and public awareness materials in a timely manner to updated distribution lists.
• Prepares and distributes quarterly newsletter, Reconnaissance
• biweekly e-news bulletin for APCA members, APCA Update
• Gathers information from staff and other sources and works with APCA IT Director, to update and maintain the APCA website
• Prepares APCA member marketing materials, including APCA membership brochure, annual report, stationary, staff business cards, media packets, special briefing packets, flyers, advertising, conference notices and programs, exhibits, membership renewal, membership drive packets, acquisition and acknowledgement packages, and other APCA promotional materials
• Works with APCA's Technical Assistance Team to provide technical assistance directly to APCA members. Provides training in marketing, communications, and public relations and develops tools and other materials to strengthen the ability of CHCs and other APCA members to market their facilities and programs at the local community level.
• Works with APCA staff to execute or assist in executing regularly scheduled APCA events. This includes but is not limited to the face-face Board meetings, APCA's annual meeting, two yearly APCA conferences, and other events identified by APCA management. Follows APCA guidelines for events management.
• Coordinates arrangements for meeting facilities, including hotel or other site reservations, blocking hotel rooms, choosing food service, arranging room set up, A/V equipment, and Internet availability, and ensuring that appropriate contractual arrangements are made for necessary services. Serves as on-site coordinator during conferences and meetings.
• Confirms and coordinates logistics with speakers and presenters, including gathering biographical information for promotion and introduction, arranging for A/V, Internet, and equipment needs, and assisting with travel arrangements as necessary.
• Prepares thank you letters and other correspondence as necessary, related to appropriate events follow up.
• Keeps accurate and completed records of events.
• Works closely with the Business Office Coordinator as necessary to track APCA members, donors, friends, and volunteers through data input and updates. Helps to maintain accurate records on APCA members and date and amount of dues paid for APCA members.
• Works with the Recruitment Services Director to assist in developing marketing materials, posting open positions, website development, conferences, and coordination with locums.
• Develops and submits timely reports on project implementation status and results to the Member Services and Special Projects Coordinator.
• Participates in APCA's Committee meetings, may staff some committees.

Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills and Abilities:
 Bachelors degree in communications/public relations/advertising/marketing or related field
 At least three years of professional experience in related field, including developing and writing messages to promote an organization, mission, or service, and preparing materials for publication
 Experience and skills in coordinating conferences, events, and meetings
 Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Excellent writing skills a must
 Demonstrated proficiency in use of computers for word processing, publication design, communication via e-mail, and for conducting research via the Internet. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Publisher, and Windows required. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Ektron helpful.
 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and partnerships with a wide variety of people, including members, clinic staff, public officials, and the general public
 Ability to work independently in all settings related to the position
 Experience working in nonprofit settings (particularly in healthcare) preferred
