Full-time Preschool Co-Teacher (seasonal - summer)

If you believe in children and their ability to learn through play, culture, and self-care, then you may find a rewarding position in our school.

Preschool Co-Teacher
As a team, you and your co-teacher will interweave Jewish traditions, local Alaskan cultures, and the children's interests into a play-based emergent curriculum. You will develop relationships with the children and families and engage the class in small and large group activities. You will bring your own knowledge and quickly assimilate the innovative ways we provide opportunities emergent literacy, mathematical, and social-emotional development. You believe in "process over product" and will challenge our children to expand their palates and support their creativity in every way. You are someone who is going to observe, learn quickly, and jump in. You will be a full partner in the constant evolution of the classroom.

Our classrooms will keep you on your feet, on your toes, and quite busy. Our kids are passionate, excited, excitable, loving, lovable, creative, diverse, and in many cases, out-spoken, articulate, and questioning. We love getting dirty inside and outside the classroom--our families sign clothing waivers so we don't have to worry about wearing our art projects home—and treasure mud and water. We go on nature walks in the forest, climb on our playground, visit the babies and toddlers, run around in our ballroom, curl up with books, snuggle teachers during story time, hug our friends when they trip and fall, help with making snack, pour our own milk and water, build bridges with box blocks, dress up like dragons, go on field trips to the grocery store and other community locations, and paint every surface imaginable. We bake bread every Friday and sing songs with our whole school for Shabbat, the Jewish Sabbath. When there is a Jewish holiday, you will know because we will be eating special foods, wearing special clothes, or playing special games.

Because we are a small program, all staff are trained to work with all age groups in all classrooms. We plan to tailor positions to individual strengths. Regardless of specific placement, successful applicant will embrace our environment and our traditions and make it his or her own. If you are self-motivated, hardworking, open-minded, and in love with working with kids, please email your cover letter and resume or CV to the address above. If you have a preference for one of the three open positions, please express this in your cover letter.

GED or high school diploma required; additional education is a bonus. You must have or be willing to get CPR/First Aid certification and Foodworker certification. You must have three references and be able to clear fingerprint background checks. You must be willing to complete a minimum of 22 hours of professional development throughout the coming year. This will include self-study.

We can offer: a supportive and positive work environment, incredible experience, an hourly wage DOE, room for advancement, paid Federal holidays (plus paid Jewish holidays!) and a free loaf of amazing home-baked bread every Friday. We are an equal opportunity employer.
